I am using the newest Debian version with Plasma on a Dell laptop. The HDMI adapter isn’t functioning, even after installing the drivers and connecting it. When I had Windows 10 installed, it worked but now it doesn’t. The adapter is a USB to HDMI Multi-Monitor Adapter Model JUA258 from Create 5JS.

What exactly do you mean by "installed the drivers"? Typically on Linux something either works or it doesn't, adding new kernel modules for things not natively supported by your Linux distribution can be tricky and a error prone. Odds are this specific adapter is either not supported or needs specific configuration tweaks to be detected. It may use a known chip but not a known USB ID.

I visited their site and saved the drivers for my device, then used Wine to run them.

Windows drivers cannot be executed through Wine. Wine is designed specifically for running Windows applications. Similar discussions exist on Reddit, often suggesting the USB 3.0 variant, which Linux supports via DisplayLink. USB 2.0 adapters rely on proprietary methods, unless the vendor chooses to open the source code for Linux driver development.

Does your laptop feature a Mini HDMI port? I connect using the Club3D Mini HDMI to HDMI 2.0 cable, and it functions smoothly across my FreeBSD and Linux notebooks as well as netbooks.
