Hello! I've been browsing for some time and never created an account, but after two years in a PC repair shop I reached a point I couldn't avoid. English is my third language, so don't worry about me. I own an old PC from the early 2000s with a damaged board, which usually contains essential programs worth thousands of euros to replace. The first task was to find a compatible donor PC and move the hard drive over. Once that was done, after fixing some problems with the user folder not appearing, we finally managed to log in—well, except it still needed activation. No problem, the original PC still shows its license sticker. (Note: I captured images online; the real ones are in Italian.) So I chose option number 2—calling customer service to activate Windows. Moving on, "Wait a minute" I thought to myself, "It never asked for a product key." I rolled my eyes, set my location to Italy, dialed the number (just a friendly robot voice), gave her the ID from step 3 (it showed one for me) and entered the confirmation code from step 4. And then it happened—no luck, it said a bad product key was used. "It doesn't matter," I said, then pressed 'Change Product Key' and entered the key, pressing 'Update.' I waited... and waited... and waited... I tried other spare keys I had, even a random one, but nothing worked. The longest wait was four out of five hours. The internet connection is available because disconnecting the cable tells me the key can't be verified (I also tried installing a few PCI Ethernet cards just to be sure...). Since I can only use Windows in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Prompt, I can't perform the "change registry value" trick because it only works in normal mode, which I can't access. I searched for command-line solutions but found nothing. Before I start digging through old boards, is there anything I missed that I should be embarrassed about?

Consider skipping activation to obtain what you require.

They likely disabled the servers by choosing option 3, disabling activation, and testing if it works for a sufficient period to retrieve the needed data.

Why bother with XP when newer systems are available? It doesn’t handle the latest hardware well.

Come to Windows 10, Uncle Billy! You can find a cheap Winblows 10 key on eBay or similar sites.

Data suggests niche programs remain crucial for clients, especially those handling EPROMs. Original CDs are currently unavailable.

Interestingly, they still function properly. I started another PC last month without any problems. Regarding the second point, my error: I can't delay activating it anymore. My third choice says "Disconnect" and returns to user selection. I would like to use the programs this company provides, but they are outdated, rare, and even though they no longer have installation CDs from when I purchased them over a decade ago. In short, I need to extract them somehow.

I don't support or endorse piracy, though I think even Microsoft wouldn't mind if you just broke it. XP is outdated enough that product keys aren't as important these days. It's unlikely you'll succeed—copying the app data directly won't guarantee a functional program. You might have a chance, but these apps usually need hidden registry entries and other files to operate properly.

The problem is it doesn't seem to distinguish between original and copied keys; it just keeps loading over and over. I can't even run a program to crack the key because I'm limited to Safe Mode. I really need a large supply of something powerful... edit: typo Updated March 5, 2019 by GoodBytes

Launch the system in Safe Mode using the Command Prompt. Type explorer.exe into the window and press Enter. When Explorer appears, press WinKey+R, then type rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk. Restart the computer in normal mode; you’ll receive a 30-day activation window.
