That’s what you hear on Reddit, but I upgraded to the pro edition because they made it seem unnecessary. My system runs Windows 10 Home with a connected activation, but there’s an activation key saved—probably my home key. Right now I can’t connect the laptop, so I’m unsure what will happen if I try to activate later. Will it work once connected? Could it downgrade me to a lower version, or will it just refuse to activate before I get a pro license?

It's not possible to enable features since Windows 11 isn't available yet.

It seems there might be some confusion about the software versions. If you installed the incorrect version, it could affect compatibility. Double-check the installation or consider reinstalling the correct one. The team on Reddit might have had valid points about the issue.

It's true, but the activation isn't perfect. Windows 11 is still an insider preview and not officially released. Getting it outside the insider program means you likely have an unofficial copy with some activation problems. This isn't the final version—once 11 launches, you'll need to reinstall or updates won't work properly since it's a beta that will be phased out soon. If you don't activate it, you'll see a watermark instead of a fully functional system.

The insider tools kick in automatically without needing a key. It only becomes important after the release is complete.

The problems seem mainly due to connectivity issues with the servers. It didn’t mention activating for two days while connected, which is strange. Also, I’m not using this laptop much, so I’d prefer to stick with the 11 model. It performs much better than the 10, and all drivers are installed properly—something that was always a problem with version 10. The Lenovo drivers were often unreliable. I’ll try activating it soon and see what happens, especially with the stored key.

Set up Windows 10 and join the Insider Program for Windows 11. It’s compatible and will keep you current.
