Activating Windows 10 on a new boot drive after replacement.
You're planning to upgrade your storage and reinstall Windows 10, replacing the 120GB NVME with a 500GB NVME. The new setup will require a clean install, and you're concerned about activation. It seems the activation might be tied to the laptop hardware rather than just the account details, so you may need to purchase a new license key if you decide to buy a replacement drive later.
It depends on your setup. Since you chose not to activate Windows 10 S, you should still be able to retrieve the activation from the UEFI. For cloning the old drive, using a USB enclosure might be a good option.
I’ll figure it out eventually when the new SSD arrives on Friday. I might just use a cloning method as a backup. I was just trying to be frugal and cut costs. Thanks!
