I bought a Windows 10 Pro USB from Amazon. After installing it, I entered the product key but got a warning it was already used. I contacted Microsoft and had it activated. Online discussions suggest this activation method isn’t very trustworthy—Microsoft might revoke your license later. Should I return the drive?

I’m confident everything will work fine. If they disable it, you can provide proof such as purchase receipts from Amazon and similar documents. However, I’m very unlikely they’ll turn it off. *Update* If you’re still eligible for a return, some Amazon reviews suggest you should send it back quickly to keep your chances.

Your Windows 10 is now active, but returning the product to Amazon may affect its activation status.

It seems the updates won't take effect until you reinstall them.

The system might allow activation via phone even if the product key was previously registered for another device, possibly through a backup or recovery option.

It can be turned on via a phone since it's directly sold by Microsoft, probably

The seller is attempting to deceive you by offering a used key at a significantly reduced price. It’s not your responsibility, as the cost is much lower than a genuine Pro key—this is intended for retail use only. You should have reached out to the seller right away and asked for a new key. The Microsoft account might be disabled, which is unusual. This situation would typically occur if your key was discovered through fraudulent means or if it came from a pack where selling keys violates their terms of service.
