Not feasible. Purchase a unlocked chip if you aim to boost performance (Intel: xxxxK or Extreme Edition, AMD: any model with "Ryzen" and some older variants)

Updating the microcodes yourself is definitely feasible. It makes sense to avoid the $300 processor upgrade just for overclocking. My E3 1240 performs really well.

I included Xeon microcodes on a factory Dell board using a manual guide. Do the microcodes control the multiplier settings? I've fixed my E3 1240 at the 37th step (3.7GHz turbo), ensuring it runs consistently without throttling.

Microcodes are typically provided by the maker, unless Intel makes a mistake and your chip doesn't activate properly.
