Remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf Since your NVIDIA setup doesn’t work with the default display. Make a file at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf as shown. The xorg.conf file is outdated anyway.

Removing the previous file seemed to resolve the issue I was facing.

I didn't even manage to use green with envy. Coolbits messed up my PC, so after fixing the bad settings that set my resolution to 360 x 720, Coolbits disappeared. My last post had a screenshot of the updated Xorg config. How do I reintroduce Coolbits' fan custom curve into my Xorg setup? The fan adjustment was essential from the start. Overclocking wasn't the main goal. What do you mean by "so glad to have custom fan curves on Linux" — such features wouldn't exist without that fix? Using driver 418. @Alex Atkin UK

Under the "Device" section for NVIDIA, add the option "Coolbits" version 12. The fan speed is managed by nvidia-settings, and I believe it should only accept fixed values directly. You can adjust it via the nvidia-settings control panel. Something like Green With Envy tracks your temperature output and provides a static setting according to your curve.

I noticed the issue with my resolution earlier. If Coolbits doesn’t cause another problem, the control panel seemed simpler than GWE.

I set up GWE on Fedora 32 after reading about it in a forum thread—it was incredibly simple, just worked perfectly. I even managed to boost the power target to its highest setting and achieved a 100Mhz overclock without any issues with F@H (RTX 2080 @ 1905Mhz). The biggest benefit came from the custom fan curve, which prevents overheating when I skip adjusting the fan or switch to auto mode incorrectly. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the outcome.

The system blocked the command input and displayed a read-only message.
