Hello everyone. I’m working with an Acer Aspire Z3101-U4062 AMD Athlon II X2 240e / 2.8 GHz integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9200 graphics card, 4.0 GB RAM, and up to 8.0 GB storage. I’m planning to remove the motherboard entirely to build a full desktop setup. I find this design quite restrictive and am curious about possible upgrades. Specifically, I’m looking into a suitable power supply and a decent graphics card that won’t break the bank. Since there’s a PCIe slot available, I assume it can accommodate a graphics card. I’m not too concerned about fitting everything because I’ll be taking it out of its case anyway.
For a CPU, keep power usage under 95W, likely a Phenom II X4 960T works. You might fit a lower power FX chip, though I'm not certain. RAM capacity around 16GB should be fine—my setup handled it well. ECC UDIMMs are supported and functioned perfectly. A PSU with 20+4 pins plus an extra CPU pin will suffice. You can run any GPU, but avoid overloading due to PCIe Gen 2 and CPU limits. This should help! I also noticed you can install an mATX board directly, though the HDD will be removed.
