In short, you can restrict his access but it doesn’t necessarily erase his files. You can block his account in the settings without deleting anything.

Choosing a block stops the login process. It won’t remove any files. This method is used for kids on my computer too, and it doesn’t cause harm. (Potential issues could include angry outbursts or upset children from being cut off)

I simply press the block, and it turns off the account until I unblock it. All the files stay intact.
