I assumed using an SSD with a lightweight Linux distribution would be better, based on his needs. If he’s okay with tools like LibreOffice, it shouldn’t cause issues. I tried this on my sister’s AMD CPU build with three cores, and it performed exceptionally well.

It was merely presented as a sample; any office program would suffice.

This morning I attempted to use a live Ubuntu USB on his machine, but I couldn't reach the BIOS... It's an ACER ASPIRE AX3812. I tried pressing F2 and the delete key, but it didn't work. Anyone know how to access the BIOS on this kind of computer?

This process can reset the CMOS on most PCs by removing the CR2032 battery cell that maintains system time and stores BIOS settings. Ensure the device is disconnected from power and turned off beforehand. Remove the battery, wait a few minutes or apply pressure to discharge capacitors, then reinstall it and power it back on. After resetting, the system should boot into BIOS immediately, though it may require pressing the del key during startup.

You inquired initially about remote work. I provide you with a quick and pleasant solution. Would you like to try the remote desktop?

I could attempt that again if I ask him to interact with his PC. Since he wasn't present when I tried, and I didn't request it, I'm careful not to disrupt his installation process or upset him.

But if I do that, he would gain access to my computer and my Windows installation?

Remote access is available via desktop. Test it without changing files—create a second user and connect using remote desktop. Be aware that logging in as your dad will log you out automatically. With adjustments, both can share the same system (different accounts).
