I've observed that the latest update in Windows 10, specifically the creators update with security enhancements, is acting too forcefully. It restricts certain functionalities of X Split and even prevents me from restoring files after a clean installation.

The main goal of this feature is to prevent apps from changing your files, and it's performing its job effectively. It offers a strong security benefit. You can set up many options if you need to restrict certain folders or allow only specific applications to edit files—such as a server that should remain untouched except for approved software. It stays fairly discreet. I dislike the updated Defender interface; these settings should have stayed in the regular Settings app, not moved there after the Creators Update. They consolidated everything into one place, which made it harder to manage these particular controls.

However it prevents you from copying your files... After a fresh install, I'm trying to copy back my files again. I turned on that feature before reinstalling all my programs and it only stops xsplit from making a desktop shortcut—update it. It also doesn't let me capture a screenshot.

The main goal is clear. This feature is turned off by default. You must include the program in the exception list so users can access these folders; otherwise, it could be misused and all the functionality would fail.

File explorer can be enhanced (similar to extensions), and malicious software or ransomware may attach one to lock your files.
