It’s possible a VPN could bypass restrictions by masking your connection, even if the hospital has blocked certain ports or firewalls. This way, traffic appears to come from outside the restricted network.

The VPN would capture the packets, wrap them in another layer so they resemble standard HTTPS data, and then transmit them to the VPN endpoint—often located at a major data center of the provider. After reaching there, it would remove the outer layer and forward the traffic normally. When the data returns, it would be re-wrapped and sent back to the client.
