Whenever I launch a game, my 12700kf clock speed across all cores drops to 3.5ghz ahead of time! My motherboard is an MSI Z690 Edge with Wi-Fi and DDR4, and all drivers and updates are current—including the BIOS—and the CPU stays below 60°C during gaming without throttling.

You must be using e cores or have a feature like speedshift turned off in BIOS. There was a discussion where turning off speedshift accidentally resolved an issue, and re-enabling it fixed the problem—so it’s possible something similar is happening with you.

It's really just about the main processors and the extra cores there, that's what you're referring to.

Testing at 4.8g 1.25v with a solid setting, aiming for 3.8-4g eco-rates and checking if it holds up to 3.5/3.6g.

I don't get it, but this only works when I start a game.

Are there any unstable MSI control tools installed? Remove them. Certain applications reduce turbo settings, which turns off Intel Turbo Boost. Use ThrottleStop, activate the TPL button, and check the power limits it displays. They may require locking to prevent accidental changes. Share ThrottleStop screenshots if you need assistance.

Thanks for the guidance. I learned from other posts and forums that MSI Centre can adjust the CPU clock speed, so turning off Game Mode helped. Appreciate the advice, especially from @unclewebb!
