I’m working with a Sky Router in my living area, using two standard bands that usually deliver only 12-13 Mbps (fiber is on the horizon). My PC is in the garage, and I’m using an AC600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter. It often connects but then drops very low—sometimes under 1 Mbps. My iPhone shows about 10 Mbps download speeds during speed tests. This setup seems to be a limitation of those wireless adapters.
They form large accumulations of horse manure. PCI Express modules generally perform better. The choice also depends on how far the device is from the router and what materials lie in the way. 2.4 GHz supports longer distances but offers slower speeds, while 5 GHz prioritizes speed but has limited range and penetration. Other options include power line adapters (using wall electrical wires) or MOCA adapters (using coaxial cables). Power line adapters can function depending on wire path and wiring quality; MOCA adapters require coax that matches the cable company’s network and are typically pricier, often exceeding $160 for a pair.
