I recently upgraded a pre-built Dell system 8700 and it now performs exceptionally well. Even after switching to a new video card and keeping the old i5 processor, games like Wolfenstein, GTA V, and all three Tomb Raider titles ran smoothly at high detail settings, plus Fallout 4 on ultra. Occasionally, it would stutter briefly before recovering. Despite having more than the recommended specs—an i7-4770 at 3.6GHz, double the recommended RAM (DRD3), and a GTX 970—I still experience occasional slowdowns. I’m curious what might be behind this minor issue.
I received the 3TB storage device and intended to use it as my boot drive. However, I discovered it couldn't utilize its full space if formatted using MBR, so I had to switch to GPT formatting. The Windows setup warned that it wouldn't install on a GPT partition, which meant I needed to reinstall Windows 10 on the 1TB drive and then format the 3TB as GPT. This device was originally purchased for gaming and video storage, but you might be correct—it didn’t behave as expected with games like GTA V, Fallout 4, Tomb Raider, or DOOM (2016).
I attempted that but the steam continues to launch it. It seems steam is accessing game files from the Steam folder rather than the boot drive folder I copied it into. The amount is reduced, but it still occurs. Probably because, as mentioned, steam is still working with the Steam folder.
Well, there isn’t anything unusual happening. I just changed my drivers last night—previously they were from June 2017, but now they’re only a few days old. So far, nothing has changed. I’m hoping this stays consistent and doesn’t return.
