WoW feels dull, but Guild Wars 2 offers exciting World vs World battles with no subscription required.

It varies by game type. In a PvE area, you won’t be marked for PvP in the world—arenas and PvP arenas are still open—while in a PvP zone you’re always identified as PvP. Usually, players don’t target you while you progress unless they’re rude.

PVP exists globally whenever you're on a dedicated server. You can run small-scale organized matches in arenas or large-scale battles in open arenas. Both need PVP equipment that can be obtained through various methods (or an early basic build can be crafted). I used to enjoy WoW PVP for a while, but later switched to Mobas and stayed engaged. You can also purchase a boost to level 90 and then jump to 100 to start organized PVP right away.
