It should work okay. I managed it without any problems. Just can't get them to meet the rating usually.

In theory it could function, though there are no assurances. Trying it out is the best approach. Still, RAM has become very affordable nowadays. You can find a 2x8GB CL16 model at around $65. It might be wiser to replace your current unit, take note of what you learned, and avoid buying single sticks in the future, then proceed forward.
