about "grounding"
im curious if clamping a wrist strap to the grounding pin on the power cord (while its unplugged from the electrical outlet of course but still connected to the laptop) would "ground"/equalize the charge between me and the laptop?
i would normally assume this would work but there is a power brick between the part of the cable you plug in and the cable that plugs into the laptop so im thinking maybe it wont work.
i need to install some ram and i havent opened it up yet but from some videos ive seen there isnt any obviously exposed metal parts of the chassis. im used to doing this with desktops where it is easy to find a place to "ground" but never with a laptop.
It's straightforward to verify. Use an ohm meter and disconnect the cable from the wall while checking the ground against the side that goes into the laptop. This might indicate the ground is linked to a standard DC power ground. You should be able to reach the DC ground side inside the device if you disassemble it.
