AAA titles experience a decline in FPS while ROG Strix G G531GD overheats during intense gameplay.
I recently purchased my Asus ROG Strix G G531GD (Intel Core i5-9300H, Nvidia GTX 1050 4GB, 1*8GB RAM, 1TB HDD) in December 2019. I tried running GTA V Online at high settings but the FPS plummeted to 10 frames per second. I changed the graphics settings to low, but it still dropped. Later I found out my laptop was overheating. I compared it with a friend's machine (Intel Core i7-7700HQ, Nvidia GTX 1050 2GB, same RAM and storage) and used his settings—results matched. The FPS remained at 10 and the thermal issues persisted. Please help! My friend's setup runs smooth at 60 FPS with V-sync on GTA V. Sorry for my unclear English.
1. attempt to remove any debris from the fans and heat sink if they appear dusty.
2. reapply thermal paste if you suspect it is dry.
3. consider using a cooling pad or lifting the laptop back by roughly half an inch to improve airflow, or undervolt it if necessary.
