It was genuine, yet because that video went live AMD compelled makers to turn off PCIe 4.0 on chips that don’t match the X570 or the new B550. Gigabyte did the same in August of the previous year.

They found some interesting info about motherboard makers promoting pre-X570 boards for PCI-E Gen 4 even though AMD claimed otherwise. It seems PCI-E 4.0 became available on many AM4 boards at first, but soon stopped because those boards weren’t designed to support the newer standard. The issue might relate to trace layouts and signal quality. Some quality builders like ASUS and Gigabyte could possibly handle it, but it’s probably not common anymore. I’m curious about the reasons behind this shift. Thanks for the insight.
