I chose to tidy up my dusty PC and when assembling the A1 and A2 units things didn’t work as expected. I have a 4790k with 2x8GB RAM, but now only single-channel B1 and B2 slots are available. Should I switch to 1x8GB? Would that speed things up since it wouldn’t need to talk to the other RAM? Also, I’d like some suggestions on how to get A1 and A2 back online. The CPU socket had leftover thermal paste, I tried cleaning it without using isopropyl alcohol but couldn’t remove everything and the pins are bent. The motherboard is a Z97 Asrock Pro 4.

If it doesn't work, start by reseating the CPU. Once that fails, you'll need a professional to handle the pins.

Can we capture images of those pins using paste? Also, is it safe to blow into the CPU underside near the RAM slots to clear any dust?

It seems the issue is connected to mounting, and I feel the same with my 3570K when there isn’t enough pressure on the CPU socket. You might reset the CMOS and continue trying.

attempted the installation and it doesn't appear to work properly, possibly due to a CMOS issue.
