To get the most out of a 9600K, you need a Z370 or Z390 board. You can actually run this chip at high speeds on even an older-looking board like a low-end Z390.

A 9600K needs a Z370 or Z390 board to make sure you can push it harder than normal. It handles high speeds really well, and even a cheap Z390 works fine for this task.
