As a novice PC builder, I unfortunately made an error by acquiring a power supply with insufficient capacity. My system’s specifications are: a GTX 1060 with 6GB of graphics card memory, an i7-8700 processor, and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM. Despite buying a 400W power supply—clearly inadequate for my gaming setup—the unit successfully operated for approximately three weeks before abruptly failing to start. I’m certain a replacement PSU is necessary, but I'm concerned about whether this issue may have impacted other parts of my computer, such as my motherboard or RAM. Furthermore, could the failure to boot be solely attributable to the PSU's strain and potential degradation during that extended period?

It’s impossible for anyone to verify if your hardware suffered damage due to carelessness. Considering you knew about the issue, why didn’t you address it immediately?

Is your system unresponsive? Do you press the power button and receive no response?

A 400-watt power supply would be operating at full capacity to keep your computer running. While a weaker PSU can support demanding machines, they tend to fail prematurely – as you can observe here.

Replacing your power supply should resolve the problem. However, it's probable that only the PSU itself has failed.

It’s impossible to determine if your parts suffered damage due to improper care. Considering you knew about the issue, why weren’t you able to resolve it immediately?

Is your system failing to start? Do you press the power button and receive no response?

A 400-watt power supply would operate at full capacity to adequately power your device. While weaker power supplies can function with demanding systems, they are typically short-lived.

Acquire a suitable power supply and observe the outcome. However, it's probable that only the current power supply has been ruined.

It’s difficult to determine if your parts suffered damage due to improper care. If you knew this existed, why didn’t you address it immediately?

Is your system not starting when you press the power button?

A 400-watt power supply would be operating at full capacity to maintain your computer’s performance. While a lower wattage PSU *can* support demanding machines, they generally have a shorter lifespan.

Replacing your power supply should resolve the issue. However, it's probably only the PSU that failed.

I realize that my calculations regarding power consumption indicated a need for 350 watts from my system. I acknowledge that I should have conducted more thorough research to ensure I selected an adequate power supply unit. Thank you for your assistance; it’s been very helpful.
