During setup, I wish to preserve the registry settings from my app locations in Windows 10 so that after a fresh installation I can restore them easily without losing changes.

Locate the necessary keys in regedit, select right-click, then export.

It depends on how the app saves its preferences. A few might have very little in the registry, while others could have scattered data everywhere.

MS must completely revise the registry. It’s a terrible state, starting from scratch. System and Applications should be the primary branches, simple enough.
