A survey about mod support in PC games.
I'm currently developing an action RPG game using Unreal Engine 4, and I've been thinking of adding mod support for the game. And for better planning on my side, I want to know what's your thoughts in regards to mod support in PC games. For the sake of the poll, fill it as if you're modding a single-player open world video game. Thanks!
modding communities successfully breathe new life into nearly forgotten or unknown projects, making them accessible to a broader audience. basic changes like language support or cosmetic tweaks can revitalize a game, offering little to no downsides except potential piracy concerns. for small developers, piracy might provide valuable free exposure and encourage additional mods to engage the community.
Backing support is great. However, before enabling mod support, confirm the game is complete and bug-free with some content included. Releasing an incomplete game with mod support seems like an opportunity for the community to improve it.
It seems like you're referring to Bethesda's recent gaming situation.
I've mainly used mods in ARK: Survival Evolved, which is one of the simplest to set up. Just go through Steam Workshop and turn it on in-game. It's not too complicated, even without being a developer. Most games with mod support also offer a community "Dev Kit" that makes it easy to create new ones.
