Greetings!

I’m looking to purchase a computer primarily for playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and I currently use low graphics settings. However, I require a high frame rate due to my 240Hz monitor. My question is whether it would be beneficial to upgrade from an i7-4770k processor to an i5-8400, considering that the i5-8400 features six cores. Would those additional cores significantly improve my FPS? Does anyone know if Counter-Strike: Global Offensive actually utilizes the extra two cores?

The Intel Core i5-8400 offers a slight performance advantage, though it’s not dramatically significant. A substantial improvement would only be noticeable with an upgrade to the i5-8600K or i9-9600K, reaching speeds of 5.0 GHz. However, your Intel Core i7-4770K should perform adequately when playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The Intel Core i5-8400 offers improved performance, though the difference is relatively minor. It’s generally not a significant upgrade unless you obtain an i5-8600K or i9-9600K and boost it to 5.0 GHz. However, your Intel Core i7-4770K should comfortably handle Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Based on my understanding, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is typically limited to utilizing a maximum of four cores or threads and heavily depends on its single-core processing speed. Consequently, an overclocked 4770K processor should demonstrate superior performance compared to an Intel Core i8400.
