You had an HP Elitebook 8470p repaired yesterday with the message "Touchpad not working." The pointstick functioned properly, but initially the touchpad seemed unresponsive. After uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics driver, resetting mouse settings, it still didn’t work. Using two fingers resolved the issue, suggesting the touchpad needs a larger contact area. You compared it to an older Synaptics model from your Probook, which behaved differently when plugged into a PS/2 port. It appears the problem might be a hardware fault, possibly requiring a replacement touchpad. Someone with experience may have insight into this issue.

This setup resembles joycon drift, with altered default resistance and limited sensitivity from a single finger, effectively widening the deadzone. I suspect a month’s earnings would be unlikely without consumer software, though it’s possible the pad could be adjusted to resolve this (besides replacement).

I’ve checked the Synaptics driver and found some sensitivity adjustments, though none appear to have a strong impact beyond reducing pressure slightly.
