Also, it might help to remove any leftover thermal paste and verify if the impact damaged any capacitors. I recall a similar issue at my workplace last year—quick soldering replaced the faulty capacitor and resolved it.

I assessed the situation, but I’m not sure about the best method to release the clip. Should I just press the metal handle or is there a safer way to do it without causing harm?

Push it downward and then you should be able to detach the metal part of the clip from the plastic hook. You don't have to apply excessive force; it should be reasonably firm, similar to the pressure needed to keep the cooler securely on top of the CPU backplate.

I've been struggling with it for about ten minutes, and I'm still unsure how to proceed. It's a bit disappointing, but it seems like I might need professional help. Thanks for your effort, though—I guess I'll have to visit a repair shop instead.

If in doubt then it's always better to take it to a repair shop. There's no guarantee that would have been the issue anyway. Keep us posted with what the fix ends up being! I'm curious now. Best of luck!
