Router: Netgear nighthawk MK63 We encountered an issue where the new router was allocating all bandwidth to the device requiring it. During gaming, my dad experienced slow internet and disrupted Zoom calls, while I had a perfect 0 ping. He mentioned it was normal before the problem started. Is there a solution to resolve this without replacing the router?

It seems your connection is too limited for both you and your dad. A zero ping isn’t feasible unless the server is nearby. Low latency exists, but it’s not quite there yet—close to zero, but not quite. Numbers like zero and infinity are unusual and seldom real. People often try to create the illusion of performance so they can achieve those rare results. It might be worth checking if your device’s bandwidth is higher now than before. Unless your provider is a monopoly, which is common in many areas, then it’s likely you’ll receive what you’re promised. Edited July 20, 2021 by Bombastinator

Turn it on and check it. Your device is consuming too much bandwidth, which is slowing down video calls. A traffic control method should assist.

Sure, I can explain it in a simpler way. You're just starting with router settings, so think of it as basic steps to get things working.

Gaming should always conserve bandwidth, as it requires minimal data. Downloading games does consume bandwidth, which is why online games often pause downloads.
