I never used 8 before. What if I lose everything? I have 4-5 terabytes of data that can't be erased or shifted until I set up my new system in 3-4 weeks.

To avoid losing your files, switch from Windows 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10. Microsoft plans to place your old operating system into recovery mode and then install Windows 10 on your main OS. I’ve shown my proof—I upgraded from 8.1 to 10.

They need many backups to avoid losing everything when things go wrong. This isn’t a problem at all.
