Consider using the WRT54G as the main body for a more powerful router setup. Keep its design simple to maintain a classic look while hiding internal components. Upgrade the inside with high-speed multi-gigabit parts so it functions like a quiet PC but handles all router tasks.

Sure, I understand. It's true people often tackle things themselves. Maybe it's not just about routers but also about roads. Computers are built to handle almost anything you imagine. My dad used to buy cheap routers for around $100 and spent about a year and a half making them himself. I still have a $10 switch from Superstore that still functions perfectly.
