Did you receive the 2005 release? They provided a key for the 2012 update. A reviewer mentioned this too. Avoid purchasing the Most Wanted 2005 from Walmart—they’re sending the incorrect version. Updated: I reached out to Walmart support requesting a refund or the genuine 2005 game.

The best option I remember is NFS The Run. For something like Carbon, try Undercover.

Carbon's performance has really taken a hit. Undercover had some confusing mechanics. I believe NFS should focus on circuit racing again; Shift 2 was decent, but their recent street wins have been pretty poor, especially with Rivals and Most Wanted (2012).

I don't really enjoy their street names (though some people do). My friend has a taste for them too, so I can tell you they have appeal for certain players. That's not what I'm aiming for with NFS. I'd prefer another Carbon or Most Wanted game from 2005, or something in the Underground series. A Hot Pursuit would be great if they could bring back the classic feel of earlier titles. Right now, NFS is essentially the main racing game in the CoD lineup. It's mostly the same exotic cars with limited customization and strange burnout handling each year.

Carbon significantly boosted the customization features, though it seems they largely dropped that later on.
