He discovered an old MSI motherboard in the closet with no dust spec listed. It appears to be an MSI MS-7210 version 3.0 or a 945GM2-FR/FI/F model, though it's unclear which one. The board uses LGA 775 and doesn't support Core 2 CPUs. You're looking for the strongest Pre-Core 2 or non-Core 2 LGA 775 CPU that fits this board, or perhaps a modified BIOS to enable Core 2 support.

Interesting point. I thought Core 2 CPU models were LGA 775, along with Pentiums and Celeron chips, but I wasn’t sure which ones truly didn’t support Core 2 architecture.
