A problem with an operating system!
A problem with an operating system!
Hey there! We had new computers in school just a week ago, and there were whispers about them using Linux. Finally, we went to the lab today to try them out. I asked the teacher there—she’s a senior who teaches computer stuff—which Linux version they were using. She confirmed it was Fedora. I checked the machine and saw it was actually Suse Linux. What should I believe? I’m not familiar with Linux or similar systems, so it’s a bit confusing. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks!
It wouldn't make sense to install Linux on a school computer because it's free software. While schools might need paid programs like Microsoft Office or Adobe Suite, the main goal here is simple document work and web browsing. Linux could be a better fit for that purpose, especially for a smaller institution.
Not everyone is comfortable with Linux in professional settings. My focus seemed to be on the Fedora community-driven system, which might not offer direct support from a professional. Also, getting outside help would be more expensive than using Windows or Mac, so they’d likely prefer in-house expertise. A fair observation. However, having someone knowledgeable about Linux on-site would also be essential for practical use.
It relates to programming or something similar. That's why they installed Linux. Otherwise, some of their PCs had Windows 7, Vista, or XP.
Navigate to the release directory and view its contents or install the package.
For clarity, there was a "computer" style start button in the left corner of the task bar. However, it didn’t display a Fedora sigh. (The F thing). I’ll just ask that person or use the command suggested by @ Albatross.
