I've been working in the VR headset market and started considering a version of the Oculus Quest without its own gameplay capability—just the screen, not the controllers. It could be a nice addition to the VR scene. In short, it would function more like a companion to the Rift, but as a budget-friendly alternative for newcomers using computers that can run VR games. Just a dream idea at the moment.

I mean, you can already connect the Quest to a PC? Not sure if a non-standalone version would be significantly cheaper. The main expense comes from the screen(s) and lenses.
The reason for the cost is that most other headsets offer higher resolution and refresh rates because they don't need to rely on a weak built-in CPU/GPU.
