Could you try installing the XP Home SP1a disc from your old Compaq Presario R3000 onto your Asus A3H using the CD key? You mentioned losing the original OEM disc, so the one from Compaq is the best backup you have.

It wasn't really put in on the Compaq since I already had a copy of XP Pro ready. I regret the times when you had to set everything up yourself.

It can be done, though reinstalling Windows with Microsoft detection issues is common. Try using the WAT remover tool.

WinXP offers flexibility with various keys. Any .ISO file works for key matching. There are no identical restrictions between OEM and retail keys. I switched from XP Pro to XP HP, both using laptop keys.
