A mysterious technical problem with my PC (freezes)
Hello! I've been facing some technical issues with my PC for quite some time. I’m hoping someone can offer a solution. Here’s what I know about my system:
- Purchased at the end of December 2021, built myself
- Runs Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- Motherboard: B550-A Pro
- GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Super
- RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX (DDR4, 3200 MHz)
- Power supply: 700 watts quiet mode
- System: 9 Non-Modular 80+ Bronze
- Storage: 1x Sabrent Rocket Q 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 2280
- 1x 1 TB HDD from an old laptop (MSI GE72-6QD16)
After installation, I noticed frequent lag, freezes, and especially drops in frame rate. With a friend, we discovered the issue stemmed from Windows not properly installing Windows 10 Pro—only Windows 10 Home showed up. After updating to Windows 10 Home via the store, the problems disappeared.
My current issue: Everything functioned well for about three to four weeks. Then, regardless of activity—whether playing demanding games, using Word, or streaming Spotify—I’d experience brief freezes lasting 2–3 minutes. Even after several troubleshooting steps (driver updates, checking SSD/HDD, memory, BIOS, disabling G-snyc, Microsoft Defender, DirectX reinstall, etc.), the problem remains.
I’m seeking advice and would appreciate any guidance. I’m also open to paying for help if needed. It’s been a challenging situation, and your support would mean a lot. Thank you!
Consider recording your present configurations and then adjust the decimal up to around 15. If this doesn't help, verify the original values and reset them. If no registry file exists, create one at: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers. In the right pane, right-click and choose New Registry Value, enter DWORD (32-bit) with name TdrDelay, then modify it to Decimal 15. Restart your system to test the change. If results remain unchanged, revert or delete the entry and restart again.
