I generally assist members seeking guidance in the communities I participate in, but this situation is quite unfamiliar. It was shared in my group, and it seems the person ran it at 88 degrees for a few hours before it wouldn’t move, so they chose to remove it. Typically, I’d run cinebench for an hour to attempt loosening it, but if that fails, what alternatives exist? Should removing it be the next step? Right now, he’s just asking for advice on detaching it from the heatsink—something I haven’t encountered in any of my builds. Geez, after two hours of preheating it’s still stuck—did they use thermal glue?
I often suggest rotating the heatsink, almost like peeling an Oreo. That way, the force is distributed across all the pins.
I utilized a playing card to achieve some separation, though overcoming the sticking forces proved challenging.
It seems like the idea of pre-heating isn't really effective, except after a short run. I'll definitely do it when it's cold now. Just give it a little wiggle—left or right—it should lift the surface tension. If that doesn't work, try dental floss as a common remedy. Whoever you are, just gently wiggle it.
