I chose to buy Far Cry 4, assuming it would work smoothly now. I use two R9 290X graphics cards with an i7 4790K processor and a Devils Canyon setup (i5-4790K). I play at 2560 x 1440 on ultra with VSR scaling for a 1080P display – it looks great. The issue is the game runs well briefly (5–10 minutes), but then the GPU usage plummets to about 68% on one card and 28% on the other, while the CPU stays near 94%. The top GPU never exceeds 83°C, the lower one is usually 6–8°C cooler. Anyone experienced with this problem? Any solutions? Thanks ahead.

Have you ever used crossfire? The last time I attempted it with 2 7970s it didn't work.

It works for a while, actually quite smoothly... yet suddenly both GPUs vanish completely. Then performance plummets sharply, making it nearly impossible to use... choppy.

It's the same issue with my single 970 in GTA V as it is in FC4. Odd.

That's right, it seems like a Witcher 3 patch. I'm still thinking about it, but I might try it out later.

It seems odd, but you're doing well and then suddenly the GPU usage plummets, rendering the game nearly impossible to play.

Yes, it causes a noticeable stutter, particularly while driving.
