This raises questions about why, after a fresh setup of Windows 10 Professional on any SSD, the defragmentation schedule might start running unexpectedly during the night and require shutting down the system to prevent it. On my older SSDs, I’ve even forgotten to turn it off, letting it defrag once a week for a couple of weeks before noticing and fixing it manually.

The Windows 10 defragmentation tool is now named "Optimize Drive." It repairs HDDs and, for SSDs, performs TRIM.

Enhance drive controls for the TRIM feature. Recognized it as a background operation users might struggle to turn off directly.

The SSD handles its own TRIM process when data is transferred or deleted, which works with compatible operating systems and drives. However, performance isn’t optimal. To improve this, use Optimize Disk to apply TRIM across the entire drive using available free space.

For performance matters, you probably don’t have to defragment drives unless there’s significant fragmentation. About half of them are usually fine.
