I've been facing problems with my taskbar on Windows 10. After the upgrade, everything seemed normal for a while, but then the start menu stopped functioning. Clicking it would trigger a spinning mouse wheel for a few seconds before nothing happened. The Cortana and date/time buttons also stopped working. I managed to fix the start menu issue by installing an older version of Start, but now I'm frustrated and want a solution. It's been about two weeks now, and if I can't resolve it, I might have to go back to Windows 8.1. I've tried a workaround from this link, but it didn't help and it caused some apps to stop working.

I believe you attempted a restart. It seems the OS XAML framework might be affected due to dependencies on Windows Presentation Foundation and XAML. You may have installed software that altered or removed system files, or used a registry tool that accidentally deleted necessary components.

I've tried turning off my computer multiple times without success. During my time using Windows 10, I haven't installed any software that changes the registry or system files. The last instance of something similar was CCleaner on Windows 8.1, and I haven't used it in a while.

It's a frequent issue that hasn't been resolved by Microsoft. I've experienced it from the very first day after setting up Windows 10 and performed a fresh installation.

I know about the problem with the start menu and Cortana not appearing. Typically, a restart resolves it.

Sure, just to clarify, it seems like you were hinting that the issue isn't due to anything else except MS shipping a faulty item.

I've also attempted sfc /scannow, but it didn't fix the issue. Now I'm using PowerShell and will update you with my findings.

After executing the command in PowerShell with admin rights, I encountered this error: The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired. At line 1. The issue is related to the Repair-WindowsImage tool.

It seems you're asking if pressing the Windows 8.1 settings button could resolve an issue, but it might not work. Let me know how I can help!

I think I'll get used to the old start for a while then... don't want to face this now since everything else is working perfectly lol
