I have an ASUS ROG laptop running Windows 10 by default. After using it, I've repeatedly attempted to install Windows 7, 8, or 8.1, but nothing has worked. My attempts included:

- Two USB drives with Rufus (changed settings and tried multiple times)
- A CD with all the versions burned
- Running the installation while the PC is on (freezes after reboot)
- An external HDD that doesn't appear in the BIOS boot list

I've also downloaded several ISO files from Microsoft and other sites, but I'm still confused about why it's not working. I don’t want to change my choice of operating system, and I’m puzzled about what’s happening.

Your laptop is likely too recent to operate software before Windows 10 without needing to install many additional drivers.

This would remove or disable Windows 10 features. There may be ways to revert it, depending on your setup. Let me know if you'd like guidance.

Microsoft prefers users stick to gen 6 systems unless they’re forced onto Windows 10, which is frustrating since it doesn’t really change much for them except for lost revenue from tracking and ads. My approach was using a standard SATA CD/DVD drive and an old 2009 installation disc I have. This method works well on desktops, but you might not find the same success without an external SATA port. Instead, download preloaded USB drivers from ASUS, install them into the Windows 7 setup file, and use Rufus to create a USB drive. Note that on Windows 7, updates won’t appear because they claim hardware isn’t supported—this is odd since updates for Windows 10 and 7 are essentially the same. You’ll need to search for software like wufuc to bypass restrictions and enable updates. It seems Microsoft often tries to frustrate users with unnecessary complexity, especially when a simple fix exists. I’d relate if there was a major hardware shift between generations or a complete rewrite of the kernel, but at its core, 7 and 10 are similar with just newer software layers added.

When the maker lacks compatible drivers for Windows 7 on your system, you're limited to version 10. Curiously, what makes version 10 particularly disliked?

I can clarify your concern more thoroughly. Could you provide additional details about the issue? Are you experiencing problems only after the system boots up following the installation of Windows 7? If so, could you describe or share a photo of the error message you're seeing? It would help to understand whether it's related to stability, security, performance, or another aspect.

This would undermine the goal, but I’m stuck on getting past the driver installation because I can’t even install Windows 7...

When no drivers are found for the storage controller during setup, you're locked out. I eventually got used to Windows 10, and it's not too terrible after all.

They needed to be loaded beforehand for the system to start. In reality, Windows 10 has its advantages. I decided to use it rather than deal with the trouble of keeping it on 7 and trying to make it work. What do you think about it?
