That's a solid point. Setting up disk encryption in Windows can be tricky, especially with BitLocker which has its own issues. It raises concerns about security and control over your data. Using VeraCrypt is another option, though it also comes with challenges. Open-source solutions are generally safer, but they require more technical know-how. The complexity of some systems makes them hard to manage without proper expertise.

Truecrypt. Also, "poorly documented and extremely complicated"... sounds like you are talking about Ubuntu/Fedora/Arch. That argument holds no water now that there is a whole encyclopedia of information on Windows that is a Google away, just like Linux.

W10 functions without a license and can be used for DL on the MS website. Its core features are essentially free.

Completely incorrect. It wasn't available for free. You needed an existing license—Windows 7 or 8.1—to obtain a free upgrade, which was only valid for the initial year. Now you might be able to download it without cost temporarily, but you'll eventually need to purchase the license to continue using it.

It functions without limits. My system has been using W10 for more than a year, but there are a few drawbacks—there’s a watermark and the customization options are turned off.

I understand several individuals familiar with W10—at least five local contacts who have experience with their systems—have used it over time. It’s wise to verify before making judgments.

I can't allow any part of my equipment to be exposed to that thing. You might think you're safe, but it's likely against the law.
