I’m not very familiar with PCs, but I’m trying to figure things out. It seems like my motherboard might be affecting the performance of other components. My friend has similar specs but with more RAM and a different motherboard (B550). He still gets smooth gameplay at 60-80 FPS unless it’s not running at full settings. The parts I’m using are decent: 32GB 3600MHz Trident Z, RTX 2060 OC Edition, Gigabyte B450 motherboard, 500GB SSD, 650W power supply, and two monitors. Some issues I notice include lower FPS in Valorant (around 110-240) even when using low settings, CPU lag, and slow loading times. In the Task Manager, my GPU, RAM, and CPU aren’t utilizing resources properly despite normal temperatures. I’ve experienced problems before with a motherboard failing completely—once I could still play games but performance dropped drastically from 144 FPS to around 30. This is likely why I’m seeing these inconsistencies now.
Typically FPS drops stem from RAM or power supply problems. 1) Have you turned on XMP mode? 2) What type of PSU do you have? Is it gold-rated? 3) Were you overclocking or underclocking your GPU? 4) It might also be CPU thermal throttling.
GPU and CPU temperatures are normal, though locating the PSU proved difficult. The model name provided was ACP-x650BM.
It's a Aerocool XPredator in bronze. As someone who appreciates quality, I'd prefer a PSU with a gold rating. What do you think about the thermal performance—can you give me a rough estimate?
