Trying to operate Blender, Adobe CS, and OBS on that somewhat outdated machine often led to issues. Beyond cleaning the dust, applying fresh thermal paste to the CPU, swapping the slow HDD for an SSD—definitely replacing it after about 11 years is wise—software needs usually prompt upgrades every 5 to 8 years. My suggestion is to tidy up the system, swap the HDD for a SSD (make it the boot drive and format it), and keep backups on a USB or external drive. For RAM, you’re using both slots, so you’d need to replace each slot with 8GB of 16GB modules. The speed matters too; 800MHz is the max you’ll likely achieve. Building your own PC can be more economical than buying a ready-made one. Check out this guide for ideas: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9pPcFg

Well, everything’s been tidied up for a while now. I usually clean my computer at least once a month. With pets around, I understand how crucial it is to keep it running smoothly. Yeah, I guess that’s why it didn’t get upgraded. I wasn’t entirely confident, and the person who said it couldn’t was probably just being cautious. Still, I thought it through. I really hoped it would work, but I wanted to be sure.

I've tested Blender with OBS but Adobe and OBS clash. Others run smoothly except for occasional internet issues during streams. Thermal paste matters—keeping temps stable inside the case helps performance. A steady 96–102°F range is ideal. As for storage, a 2 TB external drive works fine now, though switching to an SSD would change things. Your current setup seems solid, but upgrading could improve reliability. The cost estimate seems high, especially with your budget constraints.

//pcpartpicker.com/product/7x4NnQ/pny-cs900-120gb-25-solid-state-drive-ssd7cs900-120-pb That matches the price exactly. You don’t need to invest thousands in a full system anymore. The list I shared is up-to-date and includes built-in graphics. You can always switch to a separate graphics card later. The power supply should support these changes.

They were informed it was true. I'll check on getting some paste soon. Do you think this could be the reason for everything? Ahhh, that's a bargain! All the items I saw cost around 50 or 60 and were out of my budget. Wow, I had no idea! It seems I might need to begin saving for it instead. Thanks a lot, GeorgeMKane!

Not every device, but definitely some of them. Your RAM performance is generally small in both capacity and rate. Current speeds usually range from 3200MHz to 3600MHz. The screen displays 800MHz, which is significantly lower. That’s okay. I’m here to assist!

Could increasing the RAM from 8 to 16 impact the system? Might it strain the power supply or damage the motherboard? I’d rather avoid any risk of a fire from an overheating device.

You're unsure about the situation. You'll need to maintain the same performance level, but the PSU is already 11 years old (maybe 12 depending on how long it's been sitting). I wouldn't take that risk. Upgrading to an SSD won't damage it, but boosting RAM isn't worth it unless you're replacing the whole system.

The information you shared about your motherboard's RAM capacity appears to be from HP's site. If you discover inexpensive DDR3 modules, you might consider them, though it seems like a strict maximum is in place.

I'm not quite sure if my computer is the right place to install an SSD. With all the changes going on, it's hard to tell what's happening. I feel like it might be giving up.
