Moved from a 5950x setup to a fresh 9800x3D. Productivity has increased lately compared to gaming, so I opted for the 9800x3D and upgraded to a 9950x3D to address my workload’s core shortage. Before the switch, I refreshed my motherboard info to the newest version. The 9800x3D ran smoothly for a week without problems while I prepared for the new model. Once I got home, swapped everything out—it was straightforward. The new rig started up perfectly, no hiccups. When I powered it on, things unfolded as expected: fans hit full speed initially, then gradually slowed down to 62% after a few minutes. Running various software caused further throttling, and the VGA indicator turned white, staying that way until I let it run at maximum capacity. I tried resetting BIOS to multiple versions, adjusted RAM, removed and reinserted M.2 drives, unplugged peripherals, and even took out the GPU (9070 XT). All in a day’s work. Final thoughts: if anyone has tips or alternatives, share them. Here’s what I have so far:

- Asus X870e-E
- 96GB (2x48GB) g.skill Trident 6400
- 9070 XT
- Seasonic Prime 1600
- Samsung 990 Pro 4TB (main PCIe slot only, OS removed)

The RMA team has encountered issues before, such as a device getting stuck at version 62 despite extensive troubleshooting. To avoid further trouble, I recommend using RMA for support.

I changed the original 9800x3D from my wife's new setup (the newer rig) back into this morning, and it started up properly. It seems the problem is with the 9950x3D, not the storage size. I'm thinking about sending it back to Microcenter but unsure whether to swap it out or get a different model for her rig and keep the 9800x3D myself. Need to decide quickly before launch if it still works.

It's uncommon to find a faulty chip, though it does occur. I'm curious if using a different CPU would have made Z77 function better, but likely not since the same G2030 model is still active today—just used as a test CPU and doesn't have memory management. Now I have an MPower instead of a G43, which worked out fine.
