9950X parking solution
I recognize how the internet often tries to convince people they're mistaken. I recently purchased a 9950x bundle impulsively... I've been eager for some new components to assemble a system I follow in technology but don’t fully grasp everything about. My belief was that the 9950x offered the most versatile CPU. I thought the twin CCD processors with all-core architecture were ideal. If background processes run and you start a game, it seems like only one CCD is active—like an eight-core processor. Therefore, whenever you use the PC for gaming, it would have been more economical to simply buy a 9700x. I currently run a 10940x with 64GB of quad-channel DDR4. I’m trying to understand that switching to DDR5 dual-channel would be similar before increasing the clock speed from 3000MHz to 6000MHz. The RAM upgrade is a significant improvement. I also appreciate the generational advancements and the increase in instructions per cycle. My main worry is that if I attempt gaming while other tasks run, I’ll lose half my processing power by starting any games.
Core parking developed because of the over 8 cores in 3D CPUs. AMD added extra 3D cache only for half of the cores in 12 and 16 core models—not a flaw on its own. The issue occurred when games assigned tasks to non-cached cores, which was visible in performance drops. The solution was to disable non-3D cores before gaming, ensuring all work ran on caches. Intel likely faced a similar scheduling challenge with Windows, aiming to offload games to slower e-cores. If your CPU isn’t 3D enabled, this scenario won’t occur. I’ll wait for someone more experienced to clarify.
Even if this were accurate, it wouldn't apply to non-x3d chips as far as I understand. You'd still benefit from having just one game running on a single CCD while the rest handles other tasks. The value of more than eight cores isn't about gaming performance—it's about boosting overall system efficiency for non-threaded operations. Also, you mixed up the 9950x and 9950x3d; the latter is the most versatile chip, capable of handling multiple tasks on a 9800x3d while delegating background work to another CCD.
