After facing months of hardship—utilities cut, job losses, no stimulus, and a month-long struggle for food—it finally got a boost. Now I have thousands of dollars saved, all bills paid, a full fridge, and plenty left over. Thank you for the unexpected help!

I spent time shopping on Newegg and ended up with a powerful setup: an i9 9900k processor, a high-end M.2 motherboard, 32GB DDR4 RAM at 4GHz, an ASUS 2080Ti, a 1000W PSU rated for 80+ Platinum, multiple SSDs, and more.

But before I buy, I’m torn. Should I pay the full price now because I’m impatient, or wait a few weeks or months hoping for better deals? The newer parts are faster and cooler, but I’m eager to see if they’re worth it. I also think my current machine is still solid—just not as cutting-edge.

I’m really stuck. My usual routine is checking prices and working long hours just to make ends meet. This could change everything. But I worry about missing out on the latest tech. What do you think? Should I go ahead with the purchase, or hold off a bit longer?

Save a portion of your funds for unexpected situations. The weather may change, and economic support might follow. Investing $4K in something likely to lose value quickly isn't smart money management. If you need an upgrade, consider reducing the amount to half and still maintain a solid foundation.

Gamers Nexus released a video reviewing benchmarks for the 10900k, calling it a solid CPU with a price range of about $500 to $540. Comparing it directly to the 9900k, they found both models performed similarly at stock clocks, though the 10900k stands out as a better overclocking option. Based on what I observed, the gaming experience was quite similar for both, but the 10900k seems more appealing if you already own a 9900k. If you’re not upgrading yet, it might be worth considering once the 10900k becomes available. I expect some people will switch to it and sell their older models at a discount.

I understand everything you mentioned, but I didn’t share the full story that explains my perspective. I expect around $2,000 left after purchasing this PC. I also receive nearly $1,000 each week, and once unemployment ends, I’ll be back to work and feel better. Honestly, if I had only $4, it wouldn’t have been worth investing in a computer. There will be tough days ahead, and I thought having $2,000 would give me a solid safety net for another emergency.

Nvidia's latest GPUs and AMD's new CPUs suggest a potential price drop in Q3 or Q4. Purchasing now, especially with ample funds, could lead to buyer's remorse. For gaming, securing a good deal on an RTX 2060S or 2070 is sufficient.

i watched this video earlier today. and several others. I'm paranoid about buying used cpu's. id probably still buy new regardless. Unless there was some deal that popped up that was too good to resist. and idc about overclocking with a system that powerful. there wouldnt really be a need to. Theres no point in overclocking and lowering the overall lifespan of your equipment just to look at the numbers. I do game, and produce music, and do a lot of video editing. so itll be a hell of an upgrade either way.

$2000 is nothing. I don't know where you live, but if it's a place with no social health care, I would not be comfortable with less than 10x that in a rainy day fund.

It doesn't add up. I've learned that not all cores in the i9-10900K are built on Skylake, so the claim about a refresh isn't fully accurate.

AMD's Zen2 offers a better value. Unless you require single-thread speed, I won't recommend this model.

I considered going with a 3900x option to cut costs, but I usually prefer sticking with Intel. I just enjoy Intel more.
