Hi there, your order of 9800x3d arrived today. During testing at 96°C the maximum wattage reached 144W with Cinebench R24. When playing CS2 it exceeded 80°C. Stalker 2 shader compile time was around 95°C. In-game performance was solid above 85°C on X670e, Lian Li Galahad, 360 Corsair CL28 at 6000MHz with 16:2 and 6800XT. Previously it ran at 70°C under full load and 65C/68C while playing. After updating to Lian Li Galahad 360, thank you all for your support. I've tested three AIOs but none resolved the problem—Kraken X53 240 didn't help, TUF Gaming LC II 360 ARGB also failed. PBO-30 helped lower temps to 94°C on Cinebench R24. Then I got an Arctic Liquid freezer 3 360mm; it solved everything. PBO-30 at 71.4°C without PBO 73°C. It's very efficient, drawing up to 116W max. Before the freezer, it was hitting 144W.

Confirm if the cooler is fully secured and inspect for any fresh thermal paste on the CPU. If no new paste is present, use high-quality alternatives such as Noctua NT-H1 or Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

16. Don’t worry about the intense visuals in the thumbnails—they’re just highlighting the heat. This applies to both Ryzen 7000 and 9000. A video by Jay provides further explanation. The CPU doesn’t mind operating at 40 or 93°C, which is why you might notice occasional high idle spikes. Your cooler becomes important mainly once the temperature hits 95°C. You could consider slightly increasing the pump speed if needed.

I doubt the paste change matters much. Stock components perform just fine, and that shouldn't be a problem. Could there be an updated mounting configuration for AM5 compared to AM4 for the Galahad? It might not exist, but verify. You might not achieve optimal contact. What does the air feel like on the case—does the AIO emit hot air?

The air doesn't feel hot but the the cooler is hot on one side and cool on another. So are the pipes. Oped 2 3 times to check contact. Looks good to me. Same mountings for both am4 and am5 as it uses the plastic of the mobo.

Review your response. It consistently reaches 95°C under high stress. Your 9800X3D performs well with proper thermal paste and mount, but still hits 95°C at 100% load. Your previous 7700X also handled it for two years. Welcome to the AM5 era.

Your computer seems to be running at full power all the time. Thanks for clarifying. I feel much better now. I was getting a bit overwhelmed.

I set my fan profile to stay at 30% speed until it hits 94-95°C, then switch to full power. At that point, the CPU runs at its maximum clock speed without limits, which is ideal for gaming like Stalker 2 with a quieter fan curve. It might take a bit to adjust to these new CPU behaviors, but they’re completely normal and nothing to stress over. When AM5 was introduced, there were only a few discussions about this, so you’re definitely not alone.

At 7:22 in the video, 9800x3d scored below 80 during the blender test. It appears adjustments were made in the 9000 series.
