Hi, I've been trying adaptive vcore settings and after adjusting it to 1.30 without offset on my 9700K (ROG Z390-i board) after Windows started, I saw a jump to 1.48 during a Cinebench run (not the benchmark itself). I restarted and changed it in BIOS—it happened again to 1.45, so I thought something was wrong. Did this affect my CPU performance? Could briefly running at that voltage cause harm? I didn’t record the exact voltage or how often it spiked, just focused on bringing it back down.

No, your CPU wasn't damaged. Adaptive mode functions adequately during a daily overclock with real-world workloads, though it often exceeds limits during stress tests. Try running Cinebench across all cores and verify the voltage (Vcore, not VID).

The Vcore during Cinebench runs at 1.217V—perfect. VID reflects the voltage the CPU requests, while Vcore is the actual supply voltage; focus on Vcore for accurate readings.

These are the current stock configurations with a -0.050 adjustment I used daily. The standard guideline for pushing up to 1.35 Vcore applies to both the 9700K and 9900K models. I’m still learning overclocking and have mostly focused on undervolting before getting an AIO. Previously, I set the Vcore too high when the maximum reading was 1.225 stock; I’ve experimented with 1.30 and 1.35, but I’m cautious since this is my first K-series CPU. I’m wondering if these changes could harm the hardware. I’m also checking if a negative offset can be applied only to turbo clocks—something like -0.075 isn’t stable at idle for me, but -0.100 seems to work well in Cinebench multiple times without issues. Based on that, should I keep Adaptive off and stick to stock settings until now?
